Replica Spitfire Rear View Mirror?

Hi
Does anyone know where I can obtain a replica Spitfire rear view mirror please?
It`s for a plastic airframe, before I go looking for something suitable to make one from. Or for that matter, has anyone on here ever made one from something else spherical?

Well, here is the mirror from Gate Guards. It cost £44.70 including VAT and postage. I`m really pleased with it, what does anyone else think?
My only criticism, if any would be the fact that it`s taken them a month to supply it.
They are happy to supply them at this price to anyone else.

Cheers Jay. I’ve contacted Gateguards and they are getting back to me, I’ll post any info on here when I get it.

I purchased a round mirror glass from my local motorcycle spares shop last year, it fitted the original mirror outer rim frame perfect and was only £3.50!
I am thinking of contacting gateguards uk who I have been told do replica round mirrors complete with stalk in fibre glass which I can then put the glass mirror completing it off with the original round rim.

mine would be solid so quite heavy – would that be a problem? I suppose I could try and do gel coat ones

Terry Arlow used to do em

That sounds perfect Tony. It is indeed the circular type I`m looking for.
I really expected someone to say they were already being produced.
You could maybe shift some on eBay?

if I do some they will be at just over cost….would need to source the mirror bit – bowl is easy. Stalks required too

Rectangular mirror

The rectangualr one is easy to get as its identical to a reproduction that’s made for kit cars and I think its for modern or repro Morgans.

We are looking at moulding some round ones its just the mirror bit that’s causing us bother getting the right size mirror glass.

If you are already set up to do them and the price is reasonable and not lottery numbers Tony put us down for three.

If anyone thinks a classic car bullet mirror would do as a glass donor I’ve one sitting around gathering dust…

I assumed round mirror – seen them (sometimes x 2 in case of Paul Allens aircraft)

PS: I have an original that could be moulded

Is a round mirror going to be correct for the type of Spitfire/Mustang being depicted. Rocketeer will know.

I spent a while checking out sources for both round and oblong ones until I realised that the aircraft I was depicting did not have one at the point in time I was depicting it !!

I could make some (mould them) – just the bowl. They are an odd shape.

Basic costs in materials – the mould would cost £25, each copy would then be about £6 in resin/filler

would need to get some round mirrors (signal mirrors are right size)

Yes that looks right -even though it has come down in price it is still beyond our budget.

We also need one

Watching intently as we also need one for the Bottisham Airfield Museum P-51Mustang cockpit replica.

If anyone has any leads they would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
