Looks like a 109 tail but what is the mass balance/guard on the base of the tail?

No sign of the adjustable tail mechanism.

Bottom photo looks to be the Me163 vertical tail discovered near a German airfield many years ago and in a private collection. I have a photo from a different angle. Top shot is new to me…

You’re both right, this pic shows the balance, not 109 at all.

I think that may be a Henschel Hs126 tail, whatever it is it’s in a remarkably good state of preservation.
Edited to add: Looking at it again, it looks as though the fin MAY be from a 109, although the rest of the wreckage looks like a Hs126.
