Cloudcraft Phantom

Does anyone know where I could track down a 3-view drawing of Roger Dickson’s Cloudcraft Phantom glider from 1931? Better still, does anyone have one.

Thanks

Hi AA,

Thanks for reminding me of that site, I’d downloaded a few sometime back and forgotten about them. Price for a Phantom new was £300 for a ‘Standard’ and £350 for a ‘Special’ so if you saw it advertised for £170 I guess that was after it had been vandalised.

As probably you are aware, there are a number of references to and photographs of the Phantom in issues of S&G in the early 1930s and those copies of S&G are accessible online via the Lakes GC website. If you look at the wiki entry for the Phantom, the relevant hyperlinks are to be found in the footnotes. I think that S&G gave the dimensions of and performance details for the Phantom (but, sadly, no three view diagrams) and there’s even an advertisement offering it for sale for, I think, £170!

Thanks, does the book happen to give the span and length by any chance?

There’s only a 3/4 view drawing in Norman Ellison’s British Gliders and Sailplanes book..no 3 view, but you possibly know that already. There are 2 photos in Gliding and Motorless Flight by Howard-Flanders and Carr.
