Colombian DC-3 Operations

Its difficult to believe that somewhere in the world a 70 year old DC-3 is still being used as a regular! form of air transport, but in Colombia it is.

I love the engine workshop, the overwing refuelling using a bucket and venting the cabin when carrying fuel drums by leaving the door off. Its 25 minutes of enjoyment.

Rather surprised that it was sold after it’s return to the States.

I believe the owner (Gen Lyon) decided that owning three was a little excessive, and having two (a C-47 and a DC-3) in his collection would suffice, so disposed of ‘Fifi Kate’

Nice one.

Also, DC-3 A3-AWP ex NZ3543 and ZK-AWP is operated on scheduled airline services in the Kingdom of Tonga by Chathams Pacific.

Thanks checker! 😀

Here is a photo of HK-4700 still with D-Day stripes, about half way down the photo report!

cannot locate it in Columbia at the moment.

That’s normal. It’s in Colombia, not Columbia 😉

On a more serious note, yes it had a mishap (gear collapse at an airstrip in November 2010), and yes it has been repaired. It’s now operating as HK-4700 out of Villavicencio.

Video is compulsory watching for all Historic readers! 😀

Fifi Kate was N47FK, c/n 9700, USAAF 42-23838, cannot locate it in Columbia at the moment.

Rather surprised that it was sold after it’s return to the States.

That’s where the formerly-European based warbird C-47 ‘Fifi Kate’ ended up, I caught it departing Chino for its new home south of the border a couple of years ago. They subsequently wrecked it, but I believe it has been repaired and put back into service again.
