Mystery pins

Technically these are known as Clevis pins and used in many mechanisms as well as for flying wire fittings. Google gives many sites listing them.

Thanks aeronut. I quite agree and should have included dimensions originally. Without scale, they do indeed look like flying wire pins – I just wasn’t sure if there is some situation where you might have something like that on this scale.

To be fair to the proposers of the flying wire pin theory, your original post and photograph had no mention of size or scale. Even looking at the stamped heads I’d never have guessed they were 66mm dia.
I know of pins of a similar size on the Hercules (ADS Arms) but these aren’t those, I fear these will be of a ground based origin.

Thanks for the comments guys. In my ignorance, I’m not convinced that these are indeed flying wire pins, as they seem to me much, much larger than examples I’ve seen. The pins we have measure 113mm long and 42mm diameter (the heads are 66mm diameter). These seem to me to be way too large to be flying wire pins, but I’m happy to be corrected if I’m wrong. If, however, I am right in this, what might they be if they’re too large for wire pins?

Yep, Pins for connecting fork-ends. Similar pins may be used for wire or rod-end forks.

But the size (in my estimate) indicates that these are for wires.

Going by the age – try searching for airframe serial/constructors numbers…just a guess.

Look like classic car handbrake pins to me – My Triumph has ones that look just like that – True they are not numbered though 😉

They look like flying wire pins…. but what aircraft?… no idea
