Spitfire MK XI PRU instrument panel help

Hi all,

Having realised that no two Lancaster instrument panels were the same I’ve started toying with the idea to start on a Spitfire Mk XI Photo recce panel but am having problems finding an accurate panel drawing. Can anyone please help as these also seem to be variations of a theme?

Having not concentrated on a Spitfire panel before I appreciate that some original instruments are near impossible to find but one that I’ve never even seen before is the ‘Master switch’ that covers the Mag switches, although it looks exactly like the common ‘Undercarriage indicator switch’, are these still available and if so are they fitted to Mk XI?

Can anyone also confirm if the horizontal ‘L’ shaped cut out above the BFP is also present on a MKXI? All the pictures that I’ve found show it covered up by the camera box.

Thanks.

Yeah, that pic is of a 19, no side door and pressurisation, hence double skinned screen with the demist tube on the right.

Try Ian who posts on here, he makes excellent repro labels patterned from originals.

This should be a link to his details: –

Yes..am sure this is the cockpit shot of the Mk 19 in the swedish museum, as the mkXI was merlin powered based on the type 351 spitfire.
I am sure I saw some pilots notes for sale for this PRU spitfire in the museum shop at Cosford recently which would show the instrument panles in good detail.

Your cockpit photo appears to be a Griffon aeroplane; at least it has the Griffon throttle box, and priming pump arrangement.

It’s the PR XI, as far as I know?

Thanks Alan, that’s a great help 🙂 Although apart from the permanent fixtures it seems to show yet another combination of instruments, do you know which Mark it is? Keeping to a Bomber Command theme and not having the spends for a Gunsight and oxy regulator a PRU spitfire seems to be the most obvious choice.

I’ll be basing this on a Mk 5 panel CAD file that i have so if anyone would like a panel let me know?

Thanks again.
