I thought the angle poise arm below might have been from the navigator’s position inside a Shackleton, but I’ve checked and it doesn’t match. This then begs the questions, what is this and what is it from? I assume it is from an aviation context but have no information, so any suggestions would be very welcome.

Lamp
Looks too crude (and heavy) for an aircraft part to me.
Probably been attached to a wall at some point in its life – witness the white paint underneath from when the wall was re-painted.
Anon.

Not one of the 5c 1079 series of Navs lamps that were used by the RAF.
Just been restoring a couple of them..
The round base on this one is not original – just to allow it to be used on a desk.

It looks far to heavy duty for aircraft lamp, I would go with a bench lamp.

No, the ring on the end is where the bulb and metal shade attach.

So would this be for holding a soldering iron, or something like that?

I have had a few Navigator’s position angle-poise lamps and all have been aluminium construction – this one appears to be steel? More likely from a lathe perhaps?

It may be, but the workshop I worked in years ago had loads – at least two on every bench. Still got mine on a bench in the garage.
