F-100D 56-3077 crashed May 1965, Durham

Hello

I’m looking for any information about the above aircraft crash. F-100D 56-3077 of the 48th TFW/492nd TFS, based at Lakenheath, crashed at Swan Carr Farm, Bradbury, County Durham on May 12th, 1965, and the pilot ejected.

This is the only info I could find online, from a post on a local history forum.

Does anyone have any further details, or even a photo of the F-100D involved?

Regards

Simon

Adrian, I’ve had a reply from the Accident Report website already. Unfortunately they only hold records up to the end of 1955.

However they did, helpfully, point me in another direction, so I’m sending an enquiry by post to the USAF Safety Center (sic) at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico…see if I have any luck with them.

regards

I haven’t, Rob. My interest in this chap’s records was in WW2 ones locally, but the Gosfield F100 (not far from being right in the middle of Gosfield!) came up on here, and someone posted images of the crash report after I’d suggested they order it. I suspect you’d get photos in the report as the USAF seem to have been pretty thorough in documenting them, if that’s any help?

(which reminds me – someone identified a collision in the Wethersfield circuit I was interested in – must find it here, and get the report for that!)

Sorry to go off thread slightly but Adrian have you ever seen any pics of the Wethersfield F-100 that came down onto Babraham Rd, Sawston in the late fifties?

My pleasure, Simon. Hopefully it will be well worth the effort.

Many thanks Adrian. I’ve sent off an enquiry form, and will see if they have anything.

You need to search this chap’s indexes:

http://www.accident-report.com/world/europe/uk/uk52.html

I think it’s about 17USD for a report but the detail is very impressive and will almost certainly include photographs and debris maps.

(several images were posted here way back in a thread about an F100 crash at Gosfield, but seem to have vanished into the text-only archive)
