Whilst having a rummage in the garage for a few bits to take to this weekend’s upcoming events at Newark and Doncaster, I came across these so far unidentified parts (but read on).
Item 1 is very dirty and tarnished but it’s manufactured from stainless steel. Without a thorough cleaning, I can’t spot any part numbers so I’m hoping someone may recognize it. It sort of says ammunition feed chute except that the aperture at the top looks too long and narrow for bullets to pass through (approx. 5 3/4″ x 3/4″)?
Item 2 is a hydraulic pump, the clue being “8084” cast onto the pump body? It’s bound for the scrap heap unless someone screams “Spitfire!!!!” or something equally as exciting.
Item 3 is a guilty confession. It’s been on the shelf for at least thirty years and I’ve always meant to get around to identifying it. It’s fairly obviously from a turret, but which type? In the event, it took me less than 5 minutes of flicking through my Observer’s Book Of Gun Turrets this afternoon to come up with the answer…anyone else recognise it?
(No, mods, I’m not likely to be selling them at Newark, I’d just like to see if any member can put a positive identification on them. :))

I believe the part is common to the Sunderland front turret, too, so I wonder if there’s a project out there that needs it?

I do already have one, but it might come in handy one day…

Avro Avian – thanks for the id on the pump. If it’s American and in relatively common usage, I doubt the world is short of them, so I think this example might be headed to the scrap heap as it’s taken up room in my garage for long enough.
Elliott – I’d have been disappointed if you hadn’t recognised the turret part! In fact, having finally identified it yesterday, I was worried that you might have been crying out for one yourself while this one sat anonymously on my shelf for thirty years.

Now that just leaves the other bit to identify…

Yes Walter is spot on – it’s from an FN16.

The hydraulic hand pump appears to be a standard American AN6201-1, used on lots of aeroplanes (or should that be airplanes in Yank speak?:diablo:). I have used them on the P-51 to run the hydraulic system, where it is attached temporarily via a bracket onto the right hand engine mount and plumbed in via quick disconnects on the firewall.:)

Blush – thanks Alan – started off with FN5, FN50 then FN7 and ended up with FN16!

All of the tables have now gone – various telephone enquiries re-start times etc.!! 🙂

Hi Alan,
Pretty sure your item 3, the turret bit, is from a Frazer-Nash FN 16, as in Whitley nose turret.
Have I won:D?
Cheers,
Walter
