Australian ashtray?

hi,
i was given a ashtray-its tray is shaped like Australia, its approx.8ins x 5ins its dull gray underneath, the top has the states and main cities etched into it,and in the center a largish kangaroo, and the top is polished,it sits on 4 feet, there are 3 tapped holes 2 in the bottom corners and 1 in the top center, out of which on a curved stand is a P.38.
Which is dull gray,no marks a wingspan of approx.5ins on it are the words Sydney out board the right eng, then 19 in board to the f/lage,46 the other side with Australia out board left engine. On the tail surface between the fins it has South Pacific…
can anyone out there fill in any of the other details…is it to comemerate something or a piece of “trench art”?.

any help much appreciated,thanks

hi,
when i served my apprentiship in the railway workshops training school we made tools which required all aspects of basic engineering eg. filing, drilling, tapping, squaring up,marking off etc.of value but only to ourselves. Not like these beautifull examples, and as for trench art well what can you say…

Click on search, type in ashtray, click on go. Read down the list of treads. There are two from 2004.

For those of us “search-engine-challenged”, could you post the link so we can see the story?

That was 7 months before I joined the forum.
