Hello all,
I am trying to find out as much as I can about Hawker Tempest JF-V , EJ803 which my grandfather was KIA whist flying north of Rheine. His name was Flight Lieutenant Malcolm F Edwards , 133358. He served with 3(f) Squadron at that time based at B.80 Volkel. I know that he was killed around 11.30 am on the 29/12/44 whist flying a armed reconnaissance over Rheine and Dumersee. He was flying as “Filmstar Green 2 ” in a section of 4 Tempests. They were up against a force of 20 plus Me 109s and FW 190s, and after the dog fight started nothing further was scene of Edwards. I have found out that he crashed into moorland just outside the German town of Spelle, next to the railway line. The sortie was lead by F/Lt K Thiele , and the other pilots were P/O R S Adcock, and F/O K Slade-Betts whom was also lost. If anyone has any information weather it be British or German records I’d be forever grateful.
Thank you for taking the time to read my message,
James Atkinson
