Aviation Myths

A previous thread about several aviation myths got me thinking we should have a list, compendium of aviation myths, or, potential myths.

Aviation Myth.
Something people believe is true which could potentially be a myth.
A well known aviation myth.

I’ll start the ball rolling.
I read an article (popular aviation mag) that stated 50% of the (German) aircraft in `Operation Bodenplatt` were downed by their own AA fire because such a large formation of aircraft at that time in the war had to be allied, and so they were fired at by their own side.
Reading the book `Air war over the Ardennes` dispells this myth. While some aircraft were shot down by their own side (on both sides) most german casualties were from air combat.
