Today is the funeral of my great friend W/O Jack Bromfield, who was a WOp/AG on Halifaxes with 158 Squadron at Lissett. He was shot down on his 12th op on the run-in to Hanover, and in 2003 I had the privilege of taking him to Germany to spend a few days with Heinz Roekker who was his adversary that night; they got on famously well and have remained in touch ever since.
Jack ran a small Bomber Command museum at Bletchley Park right up until a few weeks ago, was a hugely popular character and will be sorely missed.
