The following came from a very good friend of mine, Dr Harry Friedman, who spends much of his time on Ohau. If the contents are not welcome here, then Mods please remove!
This came from my friend Ken DeHoff who is the executive director of the Pacific Air Museum on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor is of major importance. The runway at the former Luke Field is threatened as is pointed out in Ken’s email and it’s attachment. I have stood on this runway, studied the numbers still visible, and have peered in the direction that the incoming aircraft from the USS Enterprise CV-6 were coming from only to be shot down by defenders thinking that they were returning Japanese fighters. Sailors and Marines died on this field. It ranks up there in our battle history with Gettysburg, the Somme, and Iwo Jima. It should be preserved as the sacred ground that it is. So I’m asking you, please sign Ken’s petition and encourage your friends and your group mail lists to do the same. It is the right thing to do.
The actual letter is this…
I just created a petition asking the US Navy to Move the Photo Voltaic Array project and not cover historic Ford Island Runway.
Ford Island is the only Aviation Battlefield in America. This was ground zero on December 7, 1941 when Imperial Japanese Navy forces attacked Hawaii without warning, an act that brought America into World War II. The runway and the iconic red & white Control Tower, as seen in the movie Pearl Harbor, survived and were designated as National Historic Landmarks in 1964.
The US Navy now plans to cover this 300 foot x 4,000 foot runway with 60,000 black photovoltaic panels, and surround this historic space with a 7 foot high fence.
Help preserve this American Battlefield with your vote to stop this atrocity. Tell the Navy to put the panels on ground that isn’t stained by the blood of Americans.
I’m trying to collect 10000 signatures, and I could really use your help.

It’ll just take a minute!
Once you’re done, please ask your friends to sign the petition as well. Grassroots movements succeed because people like you are willing to spread the word!

Arent the Aleutian Islands part of America? Lots of airpower used there.
I remember the B24 taxing thru the rather large puddle of an airfield.
Or am I missing something??
A worthy cause anyway, signed
