Curtiss H.75

A friend of mine found a small piece (ID-plate) in a wood in De Panne (Belgian coast, along the french border). Curtiss is mentioned on that ID-plate, along with a serial number (12872) and a delivery date (3.39). Could it be from a downed aircraft (if so, maybe the crash site has been found)?

How lucky is that, especially as it never corroded away obliterating the vital numbers! Indeed looks like you may have found the crash site.

I have a copy of “les Curtiss H75” which details the history of the H75 in French service. Unfortunately it is in French and I do not read French, but from what I can o decypher: The plate is from H75 A1 construction number 12872, X874. Serial number 75 in French service.
It appears that the aircraft was lost on 11/05/1940 at Stekene Belgium. Pilot S/lt Naudin. Part of 1st esc GCI/4.
