Can anyone identify this Yoke ?

Guys,

I picked this Yoke up at Beaulieu at the weekend. The seller said it was from a Hastings ( an ex-gate guard ).

When I got home, I checked the internet & can’t find a picture of a Hastings cockpit with this Yoke.

I can see markings on the various Bakelite parts AS 3064 / AS 3135 / AS 3139 & the “paddles” are marked AS 3125.

I can’t find any markings on the yoke itself.

The single button on the right is clearly marked “Press to Trans.” The 2 buttons on the left are not marked. What would they be for ?

The “grip” on the right, which doesn’t seem to move, is marked “Auto Pilot Cut Out”

I wasn’t going to buy any yokes ….. until I saw this one.:D

As you may have noticed there is a Bakelite brace, that is missing/broken, from the left buttons down to the Yoke. ( Marked in green ) Is there any chance of finding one of these ?

The Varsity yoke looks good! The prince yoke on the link is also quite tasty, surprising that with it being two different companies it is of similar design. judging by the prices they are commanding it looks like a good investment if you can get them from the fire dumps. Anymore abandoned aircraft about?

Many thanks for the Info Guys. This forum is amazing 🙂

Especially glad to know where it came from & Thanks Andy for “saving” the yoke all those years ago, without your action who knows what could have become of it.

It’s now safely “presented” between 5 Stick Tops 🙂

Ian, It was the “right price” for me ( conseiderably less than those on the site you linked to ).

Ian – I know! I’ll fess up to that one. It was jolly hot, though, sawing away under the glare of sun behind perspex in my nice itchy sackcloth ATC uniform. I certainlt earned it!

I think it was slightly tatty, Rocketeer, but not terminal. Hope someone is caring for it, though.

If the Vulcan one was jolly tatty, then likely I had it….sold it after the dreaded D!
I removed a complete stick from XH980 – now that took time….about 2 hours……not as long as cutting through the dog legs on the bottom of a Hunter stick in the cockpit with junior hack saws…..each having a mighty throw of 3/4 inch……that took me 7 hours!!!

Shocking admissions of guilt there Andy! I was sorely tempted at Manston last summer where there is an open cockpit Tornado out the back of the Museum. Seemed a shame to let mag ally sticks suffer like that in the open air but I must have been better brought up than you… Nice yoke Steve, I trust it was cheaper than the similar Prince one here: http://spitfirespares.co.uk/controls.html. There was a button assembly on ebay a while back but it was almost certainly for the wrong side. Dangerous game, starting on yokes as well as sticks. No good will come of it!

Definitely Varsity…I broke several hacksaw blades on that, whilst keeping a stealthy lookout for MOD Plods…!

If anyone knows the s/n of a Varsity at Manston around 1970/71, that would be it.

I tried to get the stick out of a Javelin on the firedump, but failed. My pal had one from the Vulcan, and I have a vague idea that Tony Dyer may now own that one? Seem to recall selling it to him at the Old Sarum aerojumble.

Miffed at not getting the Javelin stick I wrote to the camp and asked if I could have it. They kindly cut it out for me, and told me I could collect it. Those were the days!!! But I never went back for it…!

I wonder who has it now? I am as certain as I can be that this was ‘my’ Varsity yoke, though. My pal had the second yoke, but it had the pin on which one of the levers pivots missing as I recall.

As stated previously it a Vickers Varsity, not too sure if the Valetta shared the same yoke design?

It is not Hastings, that’s for sure.

Looks like a Varsity one I removed at Manston circa. 1970. In fact, I’m certain!
