The aircraft shown in the picture is from the Paul Malon account on flickr.com. The real souce is not given, the account often contains contributions from old magazines like Modern Mechanix. The only additional information given is the year: 1924. Unfortunately the registration is not completely shown. For “F-…SEL” Goldenyears only contains “F-ESEL”, being a SPCA 63, a three-engined flying boat.
Are you able to identify this plane? Thank you!:)

There are two more pictures on the Flickr account of the San Diego Air and Space museum – of bad quality though. Here it is simply called “Arnoux Sans Queue”.
Thank you for your interest!:)

Moi, un expert. Je ne pense pas. Peut-être un amateur des vieux avions français, mais pas en plus!
We Germans use to say: “Bescheidenheit ist eine Zier!”, but also: “Man soll sein Licht nicht unter einen Scheffel stellen!”:)
Naming proposals for this aircraft still welcome.

Then you become “avion ancienne”? Better stop this idle banter!
PS: I see you edited your post.

Taken on the chin, Laurence. However never could I comprehend why an aeroplane is masculine. To my mind, he should be she!

Revenge for what you said about my mis-spelling of Martlet on the Shuttleworth Proms thread: what are “avions françaises”?
Interesting, though, that its registration should be ESEL, which is German for donkey!

Thank you for finding it, WJ244. I have to admit I was already a bit discouraged when French expert AA did not know it.:o
The only trouble is, this particualr aircraft seems to have no name of its own. How do you suggest me to store it? “Arnoux-Madon II”?
Thanks again!

Well done, WJ244. It demonstrates that perseverance produces rewards!
To be honest it didn’t take long. I just put in a search for French tailess aircraft and after 10 mins or so of hunting around I found it lurking on the site which I put in the link. I just got lucky with the search terms and was glad to be of help. Must admit I haven’t had a chance to have a proper look at the site yet.

My initial reaction was that it might be F-WSEL – until I remembered that prototypes didn’t use the F-W series until after the last war. I’ve not been able to find anything that fits the bill. Thus I’m left wondering whether this image is, perhaps, someone’s flight of fancy!
