Im just after advice realy.
I’m thinking along the lines of starting a small typhoon/tempest project, nothing massive as i dont have the money or know how. Id like to collect items and build up around a cockpit section if possible. Now when it comes to mechanical work and aircrft i’m no novice, although this would be a first for me. One thing id like some advice on are instruments, radio active or not( safe i mean)? if i build a BFP up is it ok (safety wise)?
Also were to start  This is a long term project, dont think i expect to have a full cockpit, or if its even possible within 12 months! i’m not daft.
Any constructive ideas/advice welcome, if you think its a plain stupid post then sorry:)

Tubing was originally T50 spec, now pretty much unobtainable, and hugely expensive.
Bear in mind, that the ends of the tubes will need to be squared off, in order to assemble the structure.
Talk to such as The Cambridge Fighter and Bomber Society who have built much of a Hurricane.

Mite have to sell one of my old RS Fords to fund the project :(:D
With regard to the tubing, wot would class as a airworthy material, dont get me wrong im not having wish full thinking, just a question.

Go for it β thereβre a number of similar projects around to draw inspiration from and one is featured in the Cockpit-Fest 2012 – Outdoor 02 album in here one of the others was exhibited at the 2011 event! π
Plus you could start looking for more parts at the Autumn Indoor Aeroboot next month!! π

Go for it..A lot has been done with less.Just tackle each part one at a time…There is heaps of knowledge on the forum with scratchbuilding bits and pieces..Reference,planning and research is your number one step..
Good hunting

A trip to Duxford with a tape measure would be a good start, the Typhoon cockpit section is very accessible. Here are some pics from a fortnight ago. My head nearly exploded with looking! There was a tape measure on the seat marked ‘Hornby Hobbies’, I wonder if Airfix will be doing a big Typhoon? Good luck with your project, the RAF were very thorough clearing up Tiffies, not much to find!

I am aware of wots involved, as for build a cockpit section, it would be a very long term project, i have quite a few contacts who can help out with advice and finding items. Im also involved with aircraft digs, all legal and above board, it would be a case of trying to find some crash sites, although these are getting harder to find now a days. The aim would have to be original as possible for me, if that means waiting longer to find items and keeping it small then so be it.

Not a silly post at all. You may wish to contemplate a slice thru…..the panel is easy to do. You can go with real or fake instruments – choice entirely yours. The tubing is heavy duty, but for a slice thru, could use exhaust/seamless. All the tubes would not be too difficult to do given a max of 2x square sections per tube. There are quite a few ‘ancillary’ panels around for tempest/typhoon…..good luck and have fun….I know that I and many others lurking here do!!

Hi there,
Well unless your going to lick the instruments I would not concern yourself too much as safe when not disturbed (glass out and blow gun about) and as for building a cockpit section well stupid it certainly is not but tough it could be! How accurate do you want it to be in there?? have you seen the size of the tubes involved? can you use a 3x and have a selection of snaps? At the end of the day its your shed and you as long as your happy I would say nuts to anyone else π
