Have been asked to pass on the information that the ‘dig’ has been called off at the rquest of the MOD.

Not exactly surprising!

bet getting public liability insurance for the project has been fun for someone!

It’s hard enough getting it for our village show, so Lord knows what they had to do…

Seems not:

http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/directory/hod012311e

What’ll happen if they find any of the crew…?

Good point, but reading the background, that could be the least of their problems, sounds like the crew tried to jettison the bomb load when they were in trouble – I would have thought there is a fair chance they may not have managed to get rid of everything before it went in?

Rather surprised that a licence has been issued under such circumstances – let alone for a dig with the public invited en masse – bet getting public liability insurance for the project has been fun for someone!

I understood from somebody “in the know” that when this was proposed last year the MOD had declined to grant a licence.

We had also looked at this as a potential subject to cover in the recent “War Digs With Harry Harris” series, but decided there were sound reasons not to get involved with the (then) proposed dig even before the MOD licence was declined.

Errr….wasn’t this last year, and wasn’t it abandoned?

The MOD would not grant a licence, I gather.

A engine from this aircraft is on display at the Lashenden Air Warfare Museum at Headcorn Kent having been recovered many years ago.
