RE: Ministers plan sixth terminal for Heathrow
Heathrow third runway faces turbulence:
Options for a major expansion of Britain’s airports are being published by the Government – and are likely to cause a huge environmental row.
A third runway at Heathrow airport and one or possibly two more runways at Stansted in Essex are expected to be outlined in consultation documents being released by Transport Secretary Alistair Darling.
Other possible options may include a new airport near the River Thames at Cliffe in north Kent. The plans could also contain proposals for expansion of regional airports such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Southampton and Luton.
