Historic aircraft for my 'historic' age ;)

Historic related by a tenuous link – Hawker Hunter G-FFOX….

Just wanted to share an online photo gallery that I’ve uploaded a week after the most memorable day in my life…. Partly to celebrate my 50th birthday, and party because of my 30+ years of involvement on and around Hawker Hunters! The owner of this aircraft generously donated the seat and funded the entire trip purely as a gift to me. I have been overwhelmed since finding out, and still am if I’m honest? Last monday’s flight (09/07/2012) took place flying out of RAF Fairford on departures day after the Royal International Air Tattoo which meant that many photographers captured my flight leaving….
After a prolonged detour to burn off fuel etc, the flight arrived back at Kemble (well known for it’s links with Hawker Hunters in the RAF) where I was snapped arriving by those that know me at this venue.
A truely memorable day indeed, and flying in a Hunter was the ultimate dream achieved – what a stunning aircraft to be in!

You have no idea how jealous I am! My son enquired about a flight in a Hunter for me – for my 60th birthday – with a Hunter operator and was told ‘no go’ as they were not permitted to do ‘commercial’ flights in ‘military’ aircraft. I shall now go and cry over my beer 🙁

You can buy a passenger ride in a Hunter, but you’d have to get yourself over to Switzerland. Both Amici dell’Hunter and Swiss Hunter Team offer passenger rides through the Alps, although I think you’d have to have fairly deep pockets.
