I have recently acquired one of these compasses, & would like to know if it is the one used on pre WW2 civil aircraft, & if anyone might need it.

But the vendor might have!
From speaking to a number of traders, it seems that radio active items such as luminous instruments and compasses, etc are routinely intercepted at the point of departure.
First the vendor knows about it is an invitation to pop down to Heathrow to collect his property or pay the (huge) fee for them to dispose of it safely.
It all adds up to frustration, considerable cost and hassle, with ultimately, disappointment to you the buyer.
Avro turnbuckles aren’t radio active by the way! 🙂
I have’nt had a problem with customs etc, over luminous instruments. I sent a couple of them to NZ, along with various other bits, as part of the exchange deal I did, to get the fin & rudder etc for my Snipe.

No, – I think that you’ll find this specific wartime military-version was fitted to Oxfords and the like. I was amazed to discover that this version was made right through the war up to 1945 at least. The black paint is one give-away. The MkIII was made by Sestrel as well as Huson.
According to the Civil Aviation records for my Mk III Avian, a Husun Mk IIIa was fitted to it after arrival in Australia, at the behest of the Civil Aviation Directorate. It appears that there wasn’t a compass fitted at all ex-factory.
The word LUMINOUS on the front of the box probably explains that. It would never get out of the country.
Haven’t had trouble with this issue before…

The SOB vendor refused to allow O/S bidders.

Thanks guy’s.
I’m not really looking to sell it, but would prefer to exchange it for stuff I can either use directly or indirectly on my Snipe repro.
So I am looking for original Snipe etc parts, WW1 British, German or French instruments, fittings, engine parts, Vickers Lewis, or spandau ? machine gun parts, inter-war aircraft items, MK 1a boost gauges etc etc, as well as manufacturing drawings for early aircraft & fittings.

Have one in the front cockpit of the Moth Minor. Could do with another as spare or better still to fit it into the back cockpit.
Now there’s a novel idea, the instructor would have a better idea of where the student is heading off to !!!!
What value do you have on it? PM me with the details . Thanks.
