Roadrunner Alert – Coventry to Newquay Pt.2

The second Airbase Hunter – the one at the airport’s west gate – departed just after 10am this morning (Wednesday).

Does anyone know if the 2-seater turned up at Newquay??

Roger Smith.

hi pagen.
thanks for that.i lit the tailpipe with a very small led torch that had a flip over red filter which i placed right up inside the pipe, and because this was taken at 0100hrs in the pitch dark the long exposure needed produced this result, i was just messing around.

Be interesting to know what the plans are for it.

More interesting (to me at least!) is whether the sole surviving Sea Prince C.1, WF137, might rejoin it and become part of the new collection?
It would be nice to see the Sea Hawk remain in the black Airwork/FRU finish.

Nice pics dogman, how did you light the Hunter jet pipe?

Yep thats definately the ex Lasham – Booker Seahawk WV798. I took this on its arrival at Booker a couple of years ago courtesy of Parkhouse Aviation.
Be interesting to know what the plans are for it.

Thanks for that. It seems to be the way of it for the 146 these days. Four engines are probably 2 too many. I used to like flying on Air Uk’s though.

RAF have just taken a couple for use in the sandpit, and Qinetiq a couple too

As requested……but wasn’t able to get the Seahawk as 404 fenced off at the moment due to “work in progress”

Rumour has it the hangars at Coventry will be flattened and tHe road through to baginton closed to build a new business park.

Its not rumour, its all found in the scoping document for the planning application.

You can view some of it online, but there’s a map of the proposed development in Baginton Post Office that shows it better. Not all the hangars are going though one of the smaller ones isn’t on the new plan, and Rowley Road isn’t getting closed. I understand from talking to some of the villagers that from the rugby club onwards it is to be made restricted access. It shouldn’t affect MAM at that.

Shackleton WR963 is staying at Coventry. Whether or not it will be in her current position is anyone’s guess. I’m told the Nimrod is also staying, as is the DC6 Diner (G-SIXC).

Rich

Wouldn’t closing the through road seriously affect access to MAM?
Also where’s the Shack/Nimrod going?

In 404 hangar (Nimrod hangar). Access will be from the new Southern Access road completed recently as I understand it. This new road runs in to just behind the VASS building (as was) from the Newquay-St Columb Major road.
