Possible aviation incident at Manby, Lincs

Poor guys, that’s some folks jobs going up in smoke 😡 one hopes they are ok, brings back memories of Binbrooks fire.

Sixty odd years ago and I might have been concerned about W4964! 😉

BBC now reporting that the fire is under control but there are fears that the hangar might collapse.:

It is the ARS hangar that is affected (like a mini C-Type). The hangar is used by Winchester Marine as a workshop and for the storage of plant and machinery (posted by the BBC as ‘planes’ and machinery).

The airstrip described in Twotter’s link is out in the centre of the airfield, in the part that is known as Manby Motorplex, and not part of the Winchester Marine compound.

Just to clarify – having heard of a fire on a the Manby Showground I checked the Motorplex website and found the following aviation connection hence the OP and the question about anyone knowing about aircraft on site!

Joking aside its never good to see an historic hangar well ablaze like that 🙁

Sounds like the best use I have heard for a Tornado… landfill.

So thats why we hav,nt heard any more about the Spitfires from Burma,or that Stirling from China…

There’s a Tornado GR1 parked under the field somewhere…;) Think we lost it in 1987.

The bit that is for sale for £3.5m is the Manby Motorplex site, which is the open airfield, now used for agriculture and a variety of motorsport activities.
