A revamp or redesign of the 737 has been on the cards since applying 787 technology to a 747 update was mentioned.

Cliche I know but I must say that only time will tell whether the famous nose will continue (IE if its gonna be a simple revamp or a more involved redesign). Although the current airframe configuration is not all that bad aerodynamics wise, it will eventually start falling further behind ever increasing efficiency values.
