Recently saw a pic of Spitfire 21 LA255 being refurbished by the BBMF. It looked really good.
I am great fan of the twenties series Spitfire. They look very powerful yet graceful.
Will it be too long before one is gracing european skies? TFC’s Mk 22 doesn’t seem to jump the qeue unfortunatly. And the boo isn’t out yet.

I agree, but personally i think Mr Flying Legends himself is one of the few who would actually negotiate with the owner, put hand in pocket and make it happen.
The owner does not take any of his aircraft to events in the US, let alone abroad.

I wonder if Mr Dave Arnold of Flying A Services ( Formerly Warbirds Of Great Britain ) has any in a container somewhere?
Always wondered what treasures he had after seeing the Corsair and Hellcat assembled and stashed in a Hanger at North Weald.
Perhaps I should have been naughty and jumped the dividing hanger wall to have a peak in the containers lol.

So for now i’d settle for a FAA formation of Sea Fury leading Seafire’s Mk.XV11and FR.47, right outside my front window :).

Being a bit tongue in cheek, you know my view on FL!, be better to see it along side FAA types like Sea Fury, Sea Hawk, Vixen etc
That is a cracking head on shot, for some reason until now I thought it was of XIX PS890!
I would love to see a later RAF scheme F.24 in the air, surely the ultimate single prop British fighter?

FL?
Yes, sorry James, i did mean Flying Legends 🙂
Very nice Mark. Oh to see that sight in the UK, even just once would be fantastic! 😎

What a shame this thread’s not about “late teen” Spitfires :diablo:

This was taken as an “aide memoir” in July 2010 at Rudy Frasca’s hangar

I was thinking Florida, probably more chance of me going there!
A UK visit by ‘441 would be great though, especially over its old haunts of RNAS St Merryn and Culdrose, a friend of mine used to play in it while it was with a Plymouth ATC unit.
335 sqn ATC at Ernesettle. She arrived just after I left the squadron (about 1958). What a beaut though! From the picture.

Not quite the same thing, but a chap in the States is building a 70% scale Mk.24 to fly… 😮

FL?

I’d love to see someone brave enough to attempt to put this “Ezellized” Seafire on the UK register.
I think the Shackleton 58 engine (with other bits on) and props would be more of an issue.
Ah, but would that stop it making a guest appearance at FL? 🙂

Thats not bad news ! She was long overdue a refurbish and hopefully some of the missing items can be replaced and an accurate accesssment of her health made.

If there’s one thing I would love to see, it’d be a Spit 22 (or 24 if remotely possible) carving through the skies over Duxford.
TFC’s is probably the best bet we have right now, although there is another on the UK register I believe.
Although let’s not forget there WERE two 20-series Spitfires on the registers in years gone by – though sadly neither of them are with us any longer…. 🙁
