Just a few images from the day. The dedication and unveiling of the RAF Hunsdon Roll Of Honour to commemorate the 126 RAF, RCAF, RNZAF and RAAF air and groundcrew who lost their lives while operation from the airfield from 1941 to 1945.
Over 250 people attended anlongside some notable names including the sons of Group Captain Peter Townsend CVO, DSO, DFC and Bar, Hugo and Giles who participated in the proceedings. Also a first was the meeting of Christopher Pickard (Nephew) and George Broadley (Brother) of the famous crew of F-freddie and the Amiens raid. Other meetings took place between relatives of other crews from Hunsdon who met for the first time at the service.

George Broadley and Christopher Pickard who both look very similar to the photos of G/C Pickard and Flt Lt Broadley themselves.

Good to see that some still remember.
We do Peter, the sole reason we built it.

Lovely memorial, and very sobering to look at that list of airmen who were lost.
As I think I mentioned once before. I used to camping there with my parents, in the late 50’s early 60’s
Back then, the runway was still there.
I also seem to remember there were a couple of ponds we used to fish in.
