So, who else has had a chance to see Red Tails?
I went to an early evening screening last night, and I must say, despite the initial misgivings about it, I actually found it to be quite good fun.
No, of course it won’t be anywhere near the likes of, say, Battle of Britain or Tora! Tora! Tora!, but it’s quite entertaining. The dialogue is a bit corny, and the storyline a little cliched, but then what war movies aren’t?
The aerial sequences are actually very good – the Mustangs and Messerschmitts do look as though the CGI developers have actually paid some attention to how an aeroplane is supposed to move!
Spectacular? Yes. Fun? Yes. If you can go into the film and think “inspired by” rather than “based on” actual events, then you’re going to have a reasonably good time.
But that’s just my 2p worth…!

The moviemistakes.com people are even better than we are, in fact at spotting that an extra’s wristwatch reads 5:09 in one shot and 8:30 in the next one.
Yeah, that takes anal retentiveness to a whole new level…!

Glad to see, as a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, that at least some people understand that it was never intended to be a documentary. There is an entire website—www.moviemistakes.com–for the anoraks who get their undies in a wad because they spot a VOR antenna on a P-51 or a nonstandard set of goggles…

Could’nt find a local Cinema showing the film —-so I downloaded Free off Internet .
Spent this afternoon watching it on laptop with earphones on good volume , crisps & coffee to hand .
For a film based on fact it was well executed . I was looking for boys own entertainment & wasn’t disappointed .
Kids from 9—90 of all races & colours will find & little bit of inspiration , entertainment & education from the film …
Its a great starting point for an historical episode ……..

Just watched it. The first couple of minutes seemed a bit over the top and not real. But once you got into the story it gets quite entertaining and turns out a great film.
Not quite sure wether youngsters will grasp, how bad the racial predjudice was pre-war and during the war.
Maybe this film will encourage many to read up on the history of the Red Tails.

you can understand some types needing CGI Mustangs are not exactly rare…
CGI is infinitely safer (and cheaper) than formating a bunch of real P-51s.

There was a real Dakota on set – are you sure it was CGI?
I know there was a real DC3 on site but it did look a bit odd compared to the other shots.

I seem to recall a shot where there were several Daks on the ground, so one might have been the real one and the rest CGI…

Just about everything with the exception of the starter tit. They had to have someone go over the cockpit after he got out of it & reset everything back to how it was before he sat in it… EVERY time…

Yes there where a few moments where you could clearly see the CGI’s (Dakota on the ground shots) but overall it was a good film.

CGI isn’t there yet, good but not quite. Models and sets still look more natural than CGI, perfect example is the revised scenes from Star Wars which look less convincing than the models that were built.
Red Tails was entertaining and killed a couple of hours.

Yes a good film it won’t be too long till it’s on sky movies and it will be recorded.
CGI id rather have many more films made this way than there is at present, plus some nice women in the movie!!

Found them to be trustworthy lot, (unlike that blithering idiot Ben Affleck who will probably never be allowed near anything mechanical again without adult supervision at all times…there are still people involved with P40’s who want to beat him senseless….)

And a Spitfire. I’m glad I’m not the only one to notice that!
Having seen the Mustang “loop” already, I let it slide. It didn’t detract any from my experience of watching the film.
Hampden, Beaufighter and Spitfire on the General’s desk. Even worse was the large photo of three TBF Avengers behind his desk 🙂
Did you notice that each of the 6 main pilots had different flying helmets and goggles? I imagine so as to help identify them when the oxygen masks were on during the flight scenes. They were all nicely outfitted accurately, but all different.
