Visit to Memorial Plaque for Two WWII Royal Navy Airmen in USA

Once again, as I’ve done for the past four years, I paid my respects at a memorial plaque in nearby Needham, Massachusetts, USA, on the anniversary date of the deaths of two young Royal Navy airmen. The tragic event occurred on D-Day. A brass plaque was dedicated on April 12, 2005, not far from the location of the crash of their plane. Sub-Lieutenant Albert John Dawson, 20, and Air Mechanic First Class Stanley Clive Wells, 28, had taken off from their American training base NAS Squantum, Mass., and experienced engine trouble over the towns of Wellesley and Needham. The plane crashed and exploded, killing the two fliers. Dawson and Wells are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, Mass.
