Hurricane individual codes 607 and 238 sqns

Doing some research for some artwork/ village history display… On 26/09/40 two Hurricanes were shot down over the Isle of Wight, one near Calborne, one at Colmans farm near Porchfield. (Either one at each site depending on which book you read…)
They are:
P5205 607 Sqn AF-? Flt Lt C E Bowen
P3830 238 Sqn VK-? P/O R E Kings

The individual a/c codes are proving very hard to track down..

Similarly a Bf110C-5 was shot down around the same time by Flt Lt William Blackadder of 607 Sqn. Anyone know the serial/code for his Hurricane?
Many thanks

further research shows the Bf110 was on a mission to Portland when it was shot down at 17:40. (The Blitz, now and then). looking at a map it seems to have been taking a scenic route and maybe was overflying Southampton as well…

The Bf110 was 5F+CM from 4 (F) Aufkl 14 at Cherbourg; the He111 was possibly G1+GN from KG55
Both involved in a raid on the Supermarine works at Woolston near Southampton

Many thanks guys. It seems it is usual to quote serials without codes in all the references I have found; is there a document anywhere that matches up both of them?

A transcribed copy of the ORB we have NEAM records this as a He111. No reference to serials

Thanks
Dave

The logbook of Francis Blackadder records that he shot down both a BF110 and He111, although there is only a combat report for the He111, on the day and was flying R4189.

R4189 was lost on 28th September with the pilot Flt Lt M M Irving.

Francis had flown the same aircraft (R4189) earlier that morning. His usual aircraft was P2874 (AF:F) which he had flown the previous day

607 Squadron – Francis Blackadder

Unfortunatley the logbook only has the aircraft serial and not the individual code letter..

However during the period in question Francis usually flew AF:F

Give me a few days to look through my 607 Sqn notes and I’ll see what I can do….
