Featured a few months ago as backdrop in an EBAY advert -I took a trip out tonight to save Martin-Hearn T.8 Tutor G-ALPU (BGA473).
Used by the College of Aeronautics circa 49-62 I would be delighted see any pictures of her in her youth!

Another recent find has been the data plate on the fuselage. Having not seen a MHL dataplate before (typically being Slingsby SSK ones) it was a nice surprise 🙂

Also does anyone have a 4.00 x 3 1/2 (27A 1102) inner tube spare? The valve stem has sheared off the one currently fitted….

The G-marks were briefly mandatory for gliders circa 1949, I believe. They were only carried for a year or 2, 3 it seems, but most of the registrations were not cancelled until the sixties. Happy to be corrected. Our T21 also flew with marks like this briefly. It is however rare to find them underneath the paint. Usually these gliders have been reskinned long since… It may have lain dormant for quite some time!
PS: copies of the original BGA-maintenance documents are still available, probably also for this glider (a wealth of information!). The BGA used to have them, but I believe the ones not requested by their owners got passed on to the VGC recently for their archives?

That’s Martin Hearn on the extreme right. The presence of all the suits possibly indicates that this was the first glider to be built by MHL at Hooton.

There’s plenty of MH built T.21’s still around including one that is flying at Old Warden on 1 Jul. However its not for sale.

I do know someone who may still a spare Kite 2. I dont know what its like. Its been out side covered up for a few years. I only have Slingsby built Kite 1’s

It was my turn for a trip out today, culminating with the Tutor arriving back at Hooton Park where it was built approx. 63 years ago.

I have long wished for a Martin-Hearn built glider to be at Hooton . However due to the cost of restoration I would rather a group buys her at cost from me as I feel my work with her is done ! PM me if you wish!
