Liberty Belle to be restored

Sorry if this has been posted earlier but the search function didn’t pick up anything.

Having followed the link to Kermit Weeks facebook page via the WIX link from the DB Lanc FSM thread, I had a nose around some of the photos posted on his ‘wall’ and it seems Don Brooks’ B17 ‘Liberty Belle’ is being restored. They are using the wings and some fuselage bits salvaged from Liberty Belle and parts from a B17 that was recovered from a Canadian river.

Three photos were posted 2 May this year of the restoration

Yes. I believe they’ll be carrying extra fire extinguishers. :diablo:

Did they find the cause of the fire and will they be incorporating changes to prevent it in the future?

Liberty Belle foundation have hired the late David Tallichet’s B17G ‘Memphis Belle’, to continue their work this year.

Bruce,

You mustn’t call it that, otherwise you’ll confuse and upset the Americans.

Please refer to it as “The movie Memphis Belle” in future. 😉

That restoration was underway well before Liberty Belle’s accident; it will, I understand use what little was left of LB, which was basically engines and a piece of wing 🙁

The restoration is of the machine that was recovered from a lake in Canada .
It was substancially intact and effectively was to become a sistership for the unfortunate Liberty Belle . In a strange quirk of fate two B-17’s I guess are now becoming one.
