No.II (AC) Sqn Centennial at RAF Marham

While the AAC were celebrating at Middle Wallop, we were proud to be the guests of No.II (AC) Sqn, the oldest RAF aircraft squadron at RAF Marham.

Check out the tail art on the Tornado!

Matt.
Yes, Major C.J. Burke is a charcter worth recounting too.

You’ll note he was killed back with his infantry regiment at Arras in 1917.
This I think illustrates how many officers were only ‘attached’ to the RFC in those days.

Indeed it is Andy and No2 are very proud of their history and certainly are not forgeting it in any way, as you can see the Centennial Scheme bears Rhodes- Moorhouse’s name under the cockpit.
Also in 2015 keep your eye’s peeled for a change of Scheme for “Biggles Biplane” 😉

Matt/Steve.
What a great day and a set of pictures.
Good stuff–I love the Tornado tail scheme.

I also think it’s worth remembering that 2 Lt. William Rhodes-Moorhouse was awarded the Victoria Cross after an operation to bomb railway installations at Kortrijk, Belgium, on 26 April 1915, while flying a BE2C of No.2 Squadron.

I was at the 95th anniversary as a guest of the then C/O Wing Commander Andrew Hine. His aircraft was painted in a similar style. I remember one of the senior pilots quipping about the fact that they might have to borrow an aircraft for the 100th due to forthcoming cuts…and that was in 2007!
It was still a great night in the Officers mess for the evening meal though, no stops in the budget there:)
