Reflector Sight Mark II* riddle?

Hi, new post from a new member here,
I was told if I need answers this is the place to come.. so here goes!

My Father was an RAF airframe fitter in WW2 working mainly on Mosquito’s (he was also a master carpenter which helped!) but also Spits and Typhoons with the 2nd Tactical Air Force, so I would love to know the background on this sight.

I have done a fair bit of research into manufacture, patent, etc but here’s my question…
By the overall condition and around the mounts it’s obviously seen quite a few hours in the air but as so many were produced is it possible to trace the aircraft it was fitted to?

Here are the details:

The sight plate reads as follows:

STORES REF No. 8B / 1124 (Painted out in black) 2351
REFLECTOR SIGHT MARK II*
(AM Badge to the right)
SERIAL No. 5472/ (should there be a year after this?)

BRITISH PATENT No. 504845/37

The Wooden box contains what I assume to be a Barr and Stroud Mark under the lid ( it’s a B & S with the number 20 above it) no other markings.

It has an original (ironically manufactured in Germany by Siemens) spare bulb in it’s wrapper. The bulb is labelled 12v Gunsight in the brass neck.
