Okay, a little more thought. Try Halifax.

I had seen that photo whilst searching that was what made me thing Halifax. its just those lower brackets..although the photo does have a widening either side but still dosnt quite match..

Would anyone have any ideas what the two bar type brackets are for?

One looks like to secure it, the other to open it and pivot on a bracket. So that would rule out my earlier suggestion of a caravan. or does it? But the suggestion of a sextant hanging from it also seem plausible.

bear in mind there’s no guarantee the frame is original to the dome though. It looks as if it was designed in order to allow the dome to hinge inward, or be removed.

Thanks for all your feedback, i have to agree reference the shape as most Aircraft domes i have seen at museums etc are a lot shallower in shape. i feel maybe caravan but like has been said the metal part in the top confuses things, looking at the Halifax on the net the shape does appear higher.but internally it seems wrong. as the 2 bars at the bottom of the dome are missing.

Would anyone have any ideas what the two bar type brackets are for?

Looks a bit like the forward dome from a B-24.

Not sure what this dome was from, but I think the fitting in the top was for hanging a Bubble Sextant from. The AN5851-1 A-14 Sextant I have has a fold up loop at the top to allow hanging it during sightings, and I’m sure the manual mentions hanging it.

I would say control caravan, but the metal piece in the top puzzles me. A B-29 has something similar with the metal piece, but the shape is all wrong. I doubt it would stay in one piece under pressure.
