:)Pleased to report that on the Front page on our local rag this week is the news that Sgt Dennis Noble is to have a Pub named in his honour.:):)
The pub, which is in Hove, is to be called ” Noble House” & is roughly 100 yards from where he crashed.
21 year old Dennis Noble flew with 43 Sqn & was shot down & killed in August 1940, although he was subsequently buried in his home town of Retford, he came to light again when his aircraft was recovered (by Keith Arnold, I Believe) along with much of his remains.

The ‘Noble House’ (Portland Road, Hove) used to be the ‘Golden Cross’. At least, on this most recent change of name, they didn’t decide to call it the ‘Iron Cross’!

I’m sure a very similar thread ran on here a few weeks ago but that was about a pub being named after Dennis Noble. This one is a bit like “man bites dog” – a really newsworthy story. 🙂

A Battle of Britain pilot to be named after a pub! 😮
Well…there was “Beery” Blackwood and “Boozy” Kellett, and then there is the “Bader Arms”….but re-naming any of our famous few something like “Royal Oak” is a tad unusual – if not radical…:D

Surely it’s the pub that is being named after the pilot. I can’t see ex-BoB pilots changing their name by deed pole to “Rose and Crown” or some such!
