Gannet and friends in the sun, 15/4/12

With most of Elvington’s main hangar emptied yesterday, I thought I’d get some shots of the usual residents enjoying a rare breath of fresh air. Particularly the Gannet, one of my favourites.

Google will get a cached way into the site which is presently down. Reasons unknown. Hopefully this will work.

BTW thanks for confirming my question Blue 2. Sadly to lazy to google that day.

Thunder and lightnings page(not main page just aircraft pages)

The website cannot display the page
HTTP 500
Most likely causes:
•The website is under maintenance.
•The website has a programming error.

Tried using IE and Firefox.

Is it possible to land at elvington for visiting the museum?

I think I’ve seen a few aircraft doing that, but no idea how you’d go about organising it. One of them was the airfield owner.

One of the guys on the hangar team who knows the aircraft is looking into just what we can do with the Gannet. We’d love to get her running, but whether or not this’ll be possible we’ll just have to wait and see.
Personally I’d like to at least see her regularly lit up, exercising her wing folds etc…

Good to see the Gannet enjoying an outdoor airing.
Blue, when you say she will be “a bit more active” does that mean plans to run her engines are moving forward?

That deep blue Dragonfly helicopter also looks the part in period colours. 😎

Things Phantom have gone a little quiet, I’ll have an ask. As to an F3, the RAF seem to be being pretty ruthless in RTP’ing them, the odds of one coming to YAM would be low I’d imagine. Shame as there’s already 2 of the mud mover version on site and with the 3 having history of being based in Yorkshire it would seem apt to have a 3…

Nic pics:)

Is the Phantom still planned to arrive from Leeming at some time, and will a Tornado F3 be arriving from the same place. If so may have to pop down to YAM at some point

The Gannet is looking good, looks like a lot of effort has gone into restoring it back to its former glory, before its Sandhoft phase.

That’s the badger! It got the Andre treatment of a repaint a couple of years ago. Hopefully it’ll be a bit more active in the not too distant future…

The Gannet looks fantastic. Is this the one that was on the airshow circuit in the 1980’s ?
