Help needed to ID altimeter

I have just obtained a few items from a shed clearance and amongst the aviation material was the Altimeter illustrated below.

I would like to know if any Forum member can tell me what aircraft may have used this type of instrument. It was manufactured for the Admiralty by Short & Mason Ltd, presumably during WW1.

One clue may be the dial which registers up to 10,000 feet?

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards, Malcolm.

It would look really good in my Mk III Avian….:D

It’s too old for your Avian, but would look great in a Sopwith Baby, Be2c or even a Short 184 :D.
