A Lancaster Part…. I think…?

Hello everyone,

My father was given this recently by a friend, and while it’s on loan to me, I’d like to know more about it.

I think he said that it was a sectioned hydraulic pump for the rear turret but that could be wrong. It’s got several numbers stamped into it and lots of intricate moving parts.

Any info would be great!!

Most likely as you said a hydraulic pump or motor, but could also be a small gas turbine fuel pump, it doesn’t t look particularly aviation, but there are American-made electric fuel pumps, whose name I forget, which have that same paint. What made you think of a Meteor engine Peter?

Cheers for the replies chaps.

That’s a surprise because it came from a pretty knowledgeable source, at least my father had no reason to doubt its svalidity. It’s very possible that the allen bolts and Hammerite were later additions, around the time it was sectioned, but if nobody’s seen anything like it then I guess it’s not a Lanc part!

All the best….

Lanc bit?

Also, the Hammerite finish might suggest it is not an aircraft part, more something from a workshop.

It is a (high pressure) fluid pump of some sort though.

Not, I think Lancaster. The Allen headed bolts suggest it is not a wartime part.
