Spitfire Repair Bulletin Poster – Cosford 1943

Gentlemen, I wonder if anyone can provide any further information on this “Spitfire Bulletin No. 23”

It measure 16″x11″ and was perhaps displayed at Cosford to inspire the workers? Hand written on the bottom “Wings Fitted 13/4/43, Engine Run 14/4/43, Off Test 17/443, Wired 18/4/43 – COSFORD’s 372 nd a/c.

It refers to Airframe M.A. 330. More information on the aircraft and indeed the incident over the Sangro River, would also be appreciated.

Regards, Simon

Interesting,Mark12 where exactly was the shadow factory at Shrewsbury ?.Do you know if it was on the outskirts of the town and how much did they actually build there?I am quite fasinated with this and are there any books with more details about this? Thanks in advance.

The Cosford group consisted of some 17 factories dispersed around the area centering loosely on Shrewsbury.

Fuselages for example were made at Sankeys Ltd at the Hadley Castle Works.

MA330 – 29 November 1943 – Flying Battle. – 7 Squadron SAAF.

It never flew again and was Struck Off Charge 16 January 1944.

Sangro River, central Italy.

My interpretation would be that MA330 was the 372nd Spitfire built at the ‘SHrewsbury’ shadow factory to Castle Bromwich which were finally assembled and flight tested at Cosford.
