With respect at the risk of going off theme and being accused of sour grapes what do you call an airframe ?

Well if one were to think in terms of spitfire rebuilds one would only need have a data plate for it to called an airframe. Or at least a base to form one.

I thought I would post this here just to settle any confusion on what the Mosquito group do or do not have.

From their own press release.

“The People’s Mosquito are very pleased to announce that an airframe for the restoration project has been confirmed. The remains of Mosquito NF.36 RL249, recovered in 2006, have been donated to the group. The remains include the all-important identity, along with several other original items.

The fuselage and wings for the restoration will be manufactured from new, while other parts will be sourced from other locations or re-manufactured.”

Now I did say aquired an airframe to form a base from. And as someone has already pointed out it does depend on what you call an airframe.

As many of us know from years on this forum Spitfires have been formed from less material than this.

Airframe or not it is still a good base to start from.

I didn’t read it as such, but then again I’m Dutch:)

We should support as many projects as possible.

Actually Mike, since you raised it, I find the attitude against the “Peoples Mosquito” and regular pottshotting against it by supporters of the “Whirlwind replica project” rather off-putting and disappointing

You are of course welcome to your opinion but might I point out I was not having a pot shot as you put it just pointing out that a comment had been made that the mossie project had an airframe and I was just clarifying what I understood to be the actual fact ??. If that is incorrect I stand corrected.

People support different projects like they do football teams it doesn’t mean that one is better than the other.

I would love to see a Mossie fly as much as a Whirly and I have no doubt that there are some who think the Whirly is a waste of time but personally I support both and wish both teams the very best in getting their project finished. πŸ˜€

“I would rather donate to this group rather than the ‘Peoples Mosquito’ project.”

To be honest why should one project be prefered over the other. They are both very worthy causes.

If you would prefer to see a certain aircraft type in the skies because you have an association to that aircraft then fair enough but why one group over the other?

Personally I think there is still enough money, time and effort there for several different projects.

I would love to see all of the in the air.

Has anyone noticed that the Mosquito group have aquired an airframe to form a base from.

I agree with the view above.

With respect at the risk of going off theme and being accused of sour grapes what do you call an airframe ?. I understood it was a few brackets and some very badly burnt fittings and some small wooden items ?.

The Whirlwind project currently has available to it One RR Perigrine engine,a main gear assembly,a small section of centre section with radiator intake and some odds and ends.We already have 95 % of the interior of the cockpit ready except for the main panel, control column, pilots seat and windscreen and rudder pedals we aint much short. We have two prop hubs hopefully coming from Oz (Wirrawarry ?cant spell.uses basicaly the Caribou uses a similar one).

The Lysander and a couple of other aircraft use common parts.

!!!

I hope those behind the ‘Peoples Mosquito’ might have the good sense to drop the prefix ‘Peoples’. It’s a horrible prefix first used by that Grade 1 S.H.1.T. Tony Blair to describe a well known but very dead Princess. As a prefix it should be strangled, along with the aforementioned former PM.

Seconded. Just allow the populus to castrate that shiite-hawke with a blunt knife first…:diablo:

It is a bit boring as a lot of the work being done is research, planning and prework. Some CAD designs would be nice to see, some WIP renders but until metal munching begins it will continue to be a tad slow.

I’m already registered to so many websites. If I had to register to take a look for every website I want to visit, I’d have thousands of accounts! The info should be able to be seen without registering IMHO.

Good Luck to both projects!! that fact that individuals are trying to acheive something is only to be commended ..as for what people consider to be stable and unstable projects..don`t even go there LOL.

It costs nothing to join but the time it takes you to do so. πŸ™‚

Once registered there is a wealth of pictorial and other information about the Whirlwind and those who flew it posted by many enthusiasts – some who have been researching the Whirlie for the better part of 30 years.

I visited the Whirlwind site once or twice. The project really interests me, but I hate the site. You can’t see a thing if you don’t register!

I wouldnt say that aquiring the donation of an airframe from the time of the groups formation until now is unstable would you?

It,s like a strip show:)

Has anything been actualy built yet??? Just wondering as there is a count down to completion running??? Also I would think that for such a complex project 4 years is very optimistic. Good luck with it.

Looks like they are clearing a workshop space soon.
