Lancs look good in post war schemes – are any restored as such?

I agree! There are a couple in Canada still in their RCAF post-war schemes.

Cheers,
Richard

How well I remember being in the back of the Triumph 2000, aged 17, passing Abbotsinch on the Inchinnan Road and exclaiming,

“that’s a bloody Lancaster!” and getting a right good rollocking off the old man and old dear for my unparliamentary language. First time I had ever seen a Lancaster.

Went on to see the Lanc at Strathallan at their airshows….latterly all painted up in wartime camo with turrets fitted and 3 out of 4 Merlins coughing into life…great days.

How sad it went on to be crushed under a collapsing hangar with the weight of snow.

Nice to see the Lanc again.

I cycled 8 miles just to see it parked up, aged 14. Tried my best to blag my way onto the pan to see it close up, but failed!

Dick Richardson, manager at Popham airfield, was the crew chief on board and has many a tale to tell about the crossing!
