Hi there everyone.
I’m new to the site hence the ID of Flyblind.
I have in my possession the skin panel off what I believe is a Spitfire. The dimensions are the same and the following markings can be seen 35927-SR4082.Next to this number there are 2 small stamped circles. One contains the letters AC but the rest is obscured The second one has the numbers 145 in it although both circles are difficult to read and there maybe other letters/numbers. There is also another set of numbers which are located near the edge of the door. They read S35927 657 22PGA. This set also has a small circle near it containing the letters VACB.
The pesron who I got the door from states his grandfather was in the Airforce in and served in Austrialia which is where the door possibly came from.
Any one got any ideas.
If it is from a Spit I’d like to finish the door. All the rivet holes are there for the crowbar etc and there are holes near the crowbar which may have been for some sort of strap.
Many thanks for your patience

Hi there
These are the photo’s as requested. Seems like it would make a good template for a repro door.
Looks servicable to me !

It looks as if it came, went, then came back again; on the Mk.I & II the stowage was introduced 3-2-41, then a new (known as Mk.III) screen & hood were fitted, and the crowbar seems to have fallen into disuse, but was then reinstated (this time on the I, II & V) from 23-1-42. As so often, Vickers’ paperwork tells what happened, but not why.
