Interesting Arkansas C47/DC3
Hello All,
Followers of the venerable and classic C47/DC3/Dakota may find these pics of interest, they were taken at North Little Rock Municipal Airport Arkansas earlier this month. N116SA (cn 32855), was originally constructed as a C47B by Douglas at Oklahoma either in 1942 or 45, civilianised to DC3 standard after its military service around 1970.

Owner of the aircraft is Harry Barrett who runs the Barrett Aviation FBO at the airport, he thinks the aircraft may have served with the RAF in India during WW2, (KN 927?), any info or correction on this would be appreciated. The DC3 is twice a survivor, as well as it longevity, it escaped being wrecked by a tornado in 2008, ending up in the middle of the field but intact, together with a Convair Liner, most of the smaller planes, Cessna’s etc, were write offs.

Before arrival at North Little Rock, the DC3 was used by South Arkansas University as an instructional airframe at Texarkana, the titles still being legible on the fuselage.

East of Little Rock and south of Highway I-40 there is a little known airliner dis-mantling/re-cycle plant at Stuttgart Municipal Airport, it is pot luck what you may find, not being a large one. One Canadair CL-600 N647BR is all that greeted me on my quick visit, an employee there said I had missed 4 737s broken up there 3 weeks previously.:(
