Yak 1

Robbo

There was but this has all been sorted now. Amazing what you find out when you look at the repair manual and read the section on belly landing and engine torque.

Construction number is confirmed as 1342 built October 1941.

All the guns and gun sight match the numbers on the construction card.

Engine was a replacement.

Colours now known.

Only a major unknowns – the loss report for December 1942, locating the pilot/family, tactical number and victor – JG51 or JG54?

In the good old days, the forum owners used to remove posts referring to Aeroplane Magazine. I think they gave up doing that a while ago.

Wasn’t there an issue with some of the work that had been carried out on the fuselage frame for the Yak 1 that needed remedial work?

Why can’t you just say “Aeroplane Magazine”?

Probably because it’s now the only direct competitor to the provider of this forum

Thanks for the info. Just to clear things up the ‘other’ magazine begins with the letter ‘A’

Yak 1

Hi 8674

Just completed an updated article on the Yak 1 including new recovery photos, restoration photos of the airframe and engine, wartime photos of Yak 1’s and additional bits on the history of the airframe and pilot. Just trying to find more on the pilot Guards Lieutenant Mikhail Georgievich Kudryashov who was an ‘ace’, born 1920 and survived the GPW. Hoping to find his family over the next couple of months plus the detailed loss report.

(He shot down a Bf109K-4 and four Fw190’s in 1944-45).

Will probably be cut down but will hopefully warrent 3-4 pages in the ‘other’ magazine and then a few others.

Should be out beginning of May.

regards

Shouldnt be too much longer ! Saw her fuselage frame being built at Gransden in 1992 ! As for Sturmoviks -there will only be one built in Lincolnshire.

I seem to remember that the original fuselage restoration resulted in it being out of alignment so it had to done again
