A Dolphin at Hendon

Whilst looking at the Sunderland flying boat at the RAF Museum at Hendon on Wednesday ~ I noticed a curtain sided trailer being unloaded at the Grahame-White Factory ……

The pictures were taken thru double glazing but they’re the best I could do

Cropping right into an image reveals the serial number as C3988 …..

Which makes this the arrival of the Sopwith Dolphin fuselage from the Aircraft Restoration Center at Cosford

And is that the wings already unloaded on the extreme right of the picture ? 🙂

I am told the Dolphin will be unveiled at Hendon on Friday March 16th, although it may be a private event and subject to change.

A new book on the Dolphin, featuring the restoration of C3988 will shortly be available from Cross And Cockade at:

Dolphin

Well, parts of the tail feathers came from D5329 but the rear section of fuselage is from C3988

Nice! Now all we need is a Snipe to complete the Sopwith set.
