The official dedication of the new CWGC headstone will take place on 20 July at 2pm with approx 25 x members of the family present. The ceremony will be conducted by the MOD/RAF.

Is there a particular reason for the lack of cooperation or does it vary?

Petty jealousy’s, NIMBY’ism, Cameron/Sarkozy, the Euro, Waterloo, We’re not speaking German ‘but no thanks to you’, …………….
Like to add any more??

I will tell the story in due course….!

On reflection, and with ongoing difficulties, it might be wise for me to say nothing else at this stage.

Watch this space, though.

Lets just say…..entente cordiale? Hmmmmmmm..!

Maybe not.

Unfortunately, there is considerable resistance to our work in Pas de Calais/Nord due to the instransigent attitude of the authorities there who are less than co-operative.

Is there a particular reason for the lack of cooperation or does it vary?

There are a good many similar cases that I know we could solve in this region, as we did recently (although unexpectedly) with the case of Sgt W J Smith RAAF – not to mention Derek Allen.

Unfortunately, there is considerable resistance to our work in Pas de Calais/Nord due to the instransigent attitude of the authorities there who are less than co-operative.

Given the outcomes we have recently achieved, and still can achieve, it is extremely disappointing to say the least. Nonetheless, I am now pressing on with the case of three British Soldiers lost in June 1940 and buried as “unknown” who I hope we may be able to identify.

For those interested, I understand that the grave and new headstone will be dedicated during August of this year with family members present from the UK and one coming all the way from Canada.

It will be a fitting conclusion.

Having spent the last three days crazily charging between home, Brize Norton, Duxford and down to Retro Track & Air in Gloucester I haven’t seen any of the papers.

Hope they did the story credit!

Very well done Andy.
The papers did the story credit, although the London edition of The Metro did wrongly caption a photograph, and I thought you had aged alarmingly since I last saw you on TV!

Nice to know that it is getting wide coverage and the name of Derek Allen is being remembered in this way.

I am not sure that the aircraft code letter is known, although a Battle Of France period 85 Squadron Hurricane would be very nice to see!
