“You can search and download Air Ministry and successors operations record books for squadrons. These records, held by The National Archives in the series AIR 27, consist of record books that provide a daily record of events in each squadron entered on a Form 540, with appendices (Form 541) including some photographs (many of which may have different covering dates from those of the books themselves). Also included are some Operations Record books for Dominion and allied air force squadrons under British Command. Though the system of Operations Record Books started after the First World War few books in this series date from before the mid 1930s.

Would be a great reference if each pdf was was not restricted to just one month from the ORB. The ORB’s I have looked at vary in content from squadron to squadron depending on the compilers enthusiasm for the job! It is a good idea for those a long way from Kew but its still cheaper for me to make the trip up there.

Just so long as the original films don’t disappear from Kew any time soon, also I can’t get my head round why they treated these records as normal Documents Online and not within the Digital Microfilm Project, as they have done with the AIR 78 series.
