I have recently acquired some early instruments “WW1/1920’s”, which are supposed to have come from the A.R.I.C factory after the end of WW2. I was told that some of them were originaly sent to the company for overhual/repair during WW2, & were subsequently recovered from a rubbish bin after they had been thrown out due to being redundant stock.
Can anyone please tell me what the firms actual business was, & what would the instruments have been used on, in the early 40’s ?.

Thank you for your reply, I look forward to hearing what you find out about A.R.I.C, I would especially be interested in anything to do with the early instruments that they reconditioned/made, as I have acquired quite a few MK IVa Airspeed indicators & other instruments, that were reconditioned by the company.

Accurate Recording Instrument Company
Hi there,
I can shed a little light on the Accurate Recording Instrument Company.
I am a Director of Accurate Control Ltd. which was incorporated in 1942 by Ken and John Reid, the sons of R. Norman Reid who ran ARIC and based at Kingston upon Thames. The factory later moved to Sunbury on Thames, eventually ending up in Poole, Dorset where we are still trading today.
The two sons decided to branch out on their own and concentrated on the design and manufacture of indication and control instrumentation for the electricity power generation and distribution industry. ARIC also made a temperature monitor and control instrument for the same industry and indeed we occasionally see these old instruments still in service!
I’m afraid I have no knowledge of the aviation side of the instrumentation of ARIC and as far as I know the company didn’t last much longer after the sons left. I will dig around a little to see what I can come up with.
