A plea for help from those experienced in researching these things, please!
I’ve come across a reference to a policeman being injured on the above date. The source, which is a fairly recent police force internal magazine, describes a “surprise raid” at 5.50pm in which a police station took a direct hit, and the gentleman concerned was one of the casualties. I’d rather not mention a name as I may be jumping the gun on someone else, at least until they say yea or nay, but I’m going to see if I can find time to do some preliminary research.
So… I suspect that I can find out whether there was a raid at that time from “The Blitz then and now” (which is conveniently located in a library within easy walking distance), and see whether it mentions a police station being hit. If it does, how should I go about seeing whether I can find names for those injured? If it doesn’t mention it, but doesn’t exclude the possibility of there being a raid, where should I look next?
Thanks in anticipation,
Adrian
